Item Parameters (a, b, c)

An IRT item is described by up to three parameters. b (difficulty) shifts the curve left or right — higher b means a harder item. a (discrimination) controls the steepness — a steeper curve separates abilities more sharply. c (guessing) is the lower asymptote — the chance a very low-ability person still gets it right.
